Office Closed on June 20 in Observance of Juneteenth Holiday
Juneteenth, also known as America’s second Independence Day and celebrated on June 19, was the day all enslaved people were free. Though the emancipation proclamation had been signed two years prior, it had not been enforced until then. More specifically, it had not been enforced in Texas.
Juneteenth was declared a holiday by Governor Mike DeWine on June 17, 2021 pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code 124.19. The Butler County Commissioners adopted this holiday as part of the county holiday schedule on October 4, 2021.
When a holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday, which in this case is Monday, June 20, 2022.
