A third dose, of Pfizer and Moderna (mRNA vaccines) is recommended for people who have severe weakened immune systems and have already received two doses of either Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.

The Butler County General Health District will begin offering third doses to those with severe immunocompromised systems beginning August 25, 2021, during Walk-in-Wednesday from 9 AM - Noon. According to guidance from the Ohio Department of Health, this includes recent transplant recipients, cancer patients and people with advanced or untreated HIV.

The FDA has updated emergency use authorizations for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines only. At this time, an additional dose is not recommended for those who received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Further evaluation and guidance specific to that vaccine is pending.
